Ragdoll Kitten Appearance
The ragdoll kitten is a breed for lovers of Siamese, colourpoint and other point cats. These adorable animals are known for their precious fur, exceptional colors, and light blue eyes.
The ragdoll kitten is a large pet, with a broad chest, muscular body and a beefy appearance. It stands out for its soft fur, medium length, silky and with a little lower mantle. The ragdoll kitten’s head is medium sized and on it are rounded and well separated ears. The back legs are slightly longer than the front ones. Females of this medium breed of cats can weigh 6.5 kg, while males can reach 9.5 kg.
Character
Ragdoll kittens are very sociable and friendly and they love to follow their owners everywhere. Ragdoll kittens adapt well to home life, even better if the house has a properly secured balcony or a window with bars. However, if the cat does not leave the house, try to keep it physically and mentally occupied. This means that you have to spend time playing with your ragdoll.
Breeding
This breed is not problematic or complicated. Although ragdoll is usually a robust and healthy animal, it has a tendency to bladder stones and heart disease known as “hypertrophic cardiomyopathy” (CMH). This is the most frequent heart disease among cats. There is also a genetic test to detect CMH so that responsible breeders can exclude sick animals from breeding. Each breeder should perform veterinary tests on their animals at an early age to rule out the possible transmission of this disease to the offspring.
Feeding
Being large breed cats, ragdolls experience many phases of intense growth. Therefore, adequate and high quality food is essential to raise a healthy cat. During its development, a ragdoll should eat on demand, especially considering that they only reach adulthood at 4 years. Then you can optimize the amount of food to prevent overweight.
The right food for your ragdoll kitten should have a high protein content of the best quality. Wet food must be the main choice for animals with a predisposition to kidney stones and bladder, due to its high moisture content.
Care
The ragdoll’s semi-long hair is easy to care of because it barely has a lower mantle. To further facilitate the weekly care of the fur, you should get the cat used to the brush and comb from an early age. At first, you can offer a snack during and after brushing to help your pet lose her fear.
Despite regular brushing and combing, many loose hairs end up in the cat’s digestive tract. Therefore, during the change of hair you can provide your ragdoll with the natural expulsion of ingested hairs by offering grass for cats or by supplementing their diet with snacks or malt paste.
How to find the right breeder
The frequently hereditary diseases in cats denote the importance of choosing the right breeder. A professional considers his animals part of the family and assumes responsibility for these and their offspring. In addition, they opt for the intelligent crossing of each animal, good health care and an adequate environment and food. A good breeder does not deliver to their young before 12 weeks of life. Kittens require at least three months to learn everything important from their mothers and siblings. This phase is not only exciting and exhausting for the breeder, but also for the mother of the kittens. For this reason, a responsible breeder does not offer several litters or races at the same time.
Ragdolls are fantastic animals and very attached to humans who conquer by their appearance of stuffed animals and their little complicated character. We wish all the best to you and your ragdoll cat!
